19. Rejected at Home

Luke 4:14-30

In our text, it all started when Jesus went to the synagogue at Nazareth and reads from the scroll Isaiah 61:1-2. After reading the scroll, he sat down and began with this message: “Today this Scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing.” It is here that Jesus declares Himself to be the Messiah.

Then Jesus tells them that He know what they’re thinking: “What we have heard you did at Capernaum, do here in your hometown as well.” But when Jesus refuses, a change of opinion occurs in the people. In fact, He was rejected and found Himself being thrown out of town. What happened?  Why did their opinion of Jesus change? What does that mean for us today?
