A Prayer of One Afflicted

Psalm 102...

Psalm 102

How does one explain the senseless murders that took place recently in Roseburg, Oregon?  How does one comprehend or fathom what it is like as a believer to receive a phone call telling you that your son, your daughter, your spouse, or a dear friend was murdered because they were a “Christian”?  How do you respond?  Is it with anger toward God?  Is it with vengeance?

Our text today is Psalm 102. This passage captures the psalmist’s distress, despair, and even tells us of his pain, groaning, and sleeplessness. Along with that is the taunting and ridicule of his enemies leaving him almost utterly without hope. So, how does the psalmist bear up under these afflictions?  Let’s look together at Psalm 102 to see what the psalmist is teaching us from his prayer of affliction.

God is Faithful

Hebrews 10:19-31...

Hebrews 10:19-31

Today we are celebrating the 40th Anniversary of CrossBridge Church. God has blessed our church through the years and has allowed us to accomplish many things, for which we are all thankful. But those things and those events are not what we are celebrating today. Our anniversary celebration is all about God and His faithfulness. Without Him we can do nothing! We are gathered together today in celebration to bring God all the glory. Our text says in Hebrews 10:23 "...He who promised is faithful...". Rejoice with us today as we take a look in Hebrews to discover more about God and His faithfulness.

An Unwasted Ministry

1 Thessalonians 2:1-12...

1 Thessalonians 2:1-12

CrossBridge Church supports missionaries, both foreign and local. Foreign missionaries are those who go beyond the U.S borders. Local missionaries are usually those who stay within the United States and plant new Bible-believing churches.

We believe a healthy church is one that participates in producing new churches. Some churches send out men from their local church and work together with them to establish a new church while others participate by supporting monthly those who desire to establish a church in an area where Bible-believing, Christ-centered churches are few and far between. It’s our pleasure today to have Pastor Matthew Breeden and his family with us from Round Rock, TX. They, along with Pastor Thomas Dawsey and family, are serving together. We have partnered with these two families since October 2013. We look forward to hearing from Pastor Breeden how God is blessing this new church.  Our prayer is that God may burden someone’s heart from our church to go out and start a new church plant in an un-churched area. Will you be praying about this possibility?

An Exemplary People

1 Thessalonians 1:5-8...

1 Thessalonians 1:5-8

It is our privilege to welcome one of our missionary families today, John and Marilyn Asmah.  CrossBridge Church financially and prayerfully supports many missionaries around the world and this morning we look forward to hearing what God is doing in Ghana.

The Asmah Family have been missionaries with Word of Life Ghana, reaching the youth of that country with the Gospel of Jesus Christ since 2003. John was born in Ghana, while Marilyn and their two sons, Joshua and Jake, were born on Bonaire, a small island in the Dutch Caribbean. John and Marilyn met at the Word of Life Bible Institute campus in Argentina and were married on Bonaire. The Asmah Family have been faithfully serving the Lord in Ghana for over a decade.  We are thankful for their service and the work being done in Ghana. Be sure to welcome them in our services today.

Resurrection Sunday: Our Hope

Luke 24:13-35...

Luke 24:13-35

Have you ever expected to receive a gift…only to be disappointed? The gift that you received wasn’t at all what you were expecting.  We all have expectations. The problem occurs when that person does not fulfill our expectations. It usually occurs because there was a lack of communication or a lack of understanding of what exactly that person was committing themselves to do.

Well, that’s where Cleopas and his companion find themselves. Cleopas communicates his disappointment when he says, “We had hoped that he (Jesus) was the one to redeem Israel.” To say that they were disappointed is an understatement. I want you to see exactly what Jesus did. He took them to the Scriptures. It was there that they saw the supremacy of Christ in all situations and the sufficiency of the Scriptures to meet any and all their needs. They walked away with a new expectation. The resurrected Christ is our only hope!

Making the Connections Biblically

Acts 2 & 4...

Acts 2 & 4

You may be asking yourself why do the pastors preach what they preach? Is there a purpose... A why? God in His Sovereign Grace not only has a vision for his creation, a purpose and a plan but also a place to go...Heaven. The vision and purpose of God’s creation is to worship and glorify Him. The greatest command that God gave was, “You shall love the Lord God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind.” We can see in the book of Acts that the life of the early church was consumed with Jesus. The distinguishing mark of the early church was their boldness and should characterize our church today. How do we live with this kind of clarity and boldness about Jesus? How do we live bold?

Today I want you to Make the Connections Biblically of the “why”. The vision and purpose for our existence as a true believer and as a part of CrossBridge is to understand: Why should I know who Jesus is? Why should I contend for the faith? and Why should I be concerned about others? It all boils down to this... Do I have a deep love and passion for God? Will I live boldly for Christ?
