3. A Call to Prayer Even When God is Silent

Daniel 6

The silence of God was deafening. Where was God? Why, just a few months earlier you were so happy. Life was good and the family was doing great. You had a heart of gratitude and praise for God.

Daniel 6

The silence of God was deafening. Where was God? Why, just a few months earlier you were so happy. Life was good and the family was doing great. You had a heart of gratitude and praise for God.

Now you find yourself going through a crisis. Hard times are here and you feel a sense of desperation. It's as if all your efforts are in vain. You prayed but what did you find? A closed door and nothing but silence.

Have you ever experienced the silence of God? You cried out to Him and there seemed to be no answer. Why does it sometimes seem as though God is present in our time of prosperity but so very absent in our time of trouble?

Daniel found himself in a very difficult situation and he, too, experienced the silence of God. When God is silent does that mean He is not at work in our lives? What do you do when God seems silent? Let's look at the life of Daniel today and see what God would have us learn from the Scriptures.

2. A Call to Devoting Yourself to Prayer

Colossians 4:2-4

As believers in Christ it should be our desire to do the will of God. There may be times when His will is not clear to us, but it has been said that "90% of God's will for our lives is already revealed to us in the Bible." It is God's will that we love Him, obey Him, repent of our sin, bring Him glory, love others, and so much more. It is also God's will that we pray. Prayer is our

Prayer is our focus today. I'm not talking about the kind of prayer we pray when we sit down at the table before dinner. It is God's will that we pray earnestly, steadfastly, intently, and with thanksgiving.

In our text today Paul is telling us that we are to devote ourselves to prayer. Doing so invites the blessing of God's power and grace in our lives and it also invites God's power and grace in the life of our church. Paul also tells us to pray for those who proclaim God's word that they might proclaim it fully and make it clear to those who don't know Him. Let's look at Colossians chapter 4 and see what Paul has for us today.

1. A Call to Prayer

Luke 18:1-8

Today, we begin a two-part series on prayer. Jesus asked His disciples a question, “When the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on earth?” Our text in Luke 18  tells us that Jesus is speaking with his disciples and warning them that in the ordinary mundane things of life it is easy to lose our spiritual focus and direction in life.

When we are surrounded with the threat of persecution, suffering, sinful temptation of this world, along with the drudgery of our ordinary life, we can become completely focused on the wrong things…the things of the world... and lose our focus, our faith and trust in God.

It can be a daily battle to maintain our faith and Luke is warning us we must not allow circumstances to paralyze our faith in God.  How can we endure and remain faithful?  Let's look at the answer that Jesus gave His disciples.
